Hospice provides care for people living with a terminal illness who are expected to die within six months of enrollment if the disease follows its usual course. Medicare-certified hospice agencies must provide interdisciplinary care that includes nursing, medical social services, counseling, and physician services. They must also provide four levels of care: routine home care, continuous home care, general inpatient care, and inpatient respite care. In South Dakota’s rural and frontier areas, some counties still do not have access to this specialized care. Use the maps below to easily identify: Medicare Certified hospices, Residential Hospice Facilities and three volunteer hospices serving South Dakota.
